Hello everyone, my name is now Yuzu, and it means ‘citrus fruit’ in Japanese. I am a 5-year-old female Shiba Inu. I have only lived with one family since I was a small puppy. I was adored and well cared for by my family, but their life circumstances changed, and they needed to surrender me to DC SIR. I have always been a fearful and shy Shiba Inu. In my first three years with my family, I was an only dog but got along great with cats. We got my younger Shiba brother, Tora, two years ago. He is the complete opposite of me. He is outgoing and loves to kiss strangers, and I am shy with new people, and I will curl up into a small ball and hide from people. Adding Tora to our family was the best thing for me. He helps me feel calm and safe around strange people. My mom told DC SIR; we are a bonded pair, and we will need to be adopted out together. I am now in a foster home with my brother, Tora, and another DC SIR alum female Shiba Inu. When I went to my assessment with Tora, we met the neutral dog, Katniss. At first, I was timid and stayed away from the volunteer and Katniss. After staggered walking for some time, I was able to walk with them. When I went in for my off-leash assessment in the park, I stayed away from the volunteer until she showed me yummy boiled chicken. Oh my! That was delicious, and I followed her around to get more. Once we arrived at Shiba HQ, I met other dogs and was fine with everyone as long as no one got in my face. I only came back up to the volunteers when they brought out more boiled chicken. When my fosters arrived to pick me up, I let them pet me when they had treats, but I hid under the couch and had to be brought out on a leash. I have settled enough in my foster home to allow my belly to be rubbed, but I will need a family that understands fearful dogs. My foster mom is working on my nervousness, but I’ll need an adopter who will continue to help me build my confidence. Could it be you?
