Hello everyone, my name is now Tsunami and it means “tidal wave” in Japanese. I am a 9-month-old, male Shiba Inu. I’m a big boy at 30 lbs! I was purchased online last December. Earlier this month, my owners contacted DC SIR and told them that they were allergic to me. DC SIR scheduled my neuter and planned my intake but my owners changed their mind and gave me away to friends. Two weeks later my new owners also contacted DC SIR and wanted to surrender me because they said they are moving. I’ve been moved around a lot but I’m finally in a place that will find me a permanent home. In my assessment, I met the neutral dog, Katniss. I tried to play with her but she didn’t want to play with me.

When I arrived at Shiba HQ I got to explore the yard with Katniss. Soon I met all the other dogs at Shiba HQ and I was so excited to have so many dogs to play with. I’m a big goofy boy and I can be a bit clumsy. I use my big paws to boop the other dogs in the head and let them know it is play time or I smack them with my butt! I learned to use the doggie door just by watching the other pups run through it! DC SIR thinks I am very smart and I will do great in training classes. I just arrived at DC SIR but they can tell I am a high-energy pup that will require an active family to keep up with me. I love squeaky toys and the raw diet which I can just gobble up! I have not been neutered so DC SIR scheduled my appointment (again!) for this week so this time I am really going in. My previous owners said I like to chew on things but I’m a puppy and respond well to redirection so this should be easily managed with the proper education (for my adopters!). I will be ready for adoption after my two-week assessment but DC SIR will begin interviews for me soon! Please share my story to help me find my pawfect forever home! I look forward to meeting you soon!

FOSTER UPDATE: Tsunami has really thrived in rescue. He has learned to play well with other dogs and has really bonded to an older female, Saisei. We think Tsunami would be happiest with another friendly dog in the home. At times, Tsunami can be growly with his toys towards some dogs but once he is good friends with them he won’t mind sharing! Especially the friendly girls! Tsunami is very responsive to reward based training.

Issues: Tsunami has the typical puppy issues, jumping on guests, mouthy, and chewing on furniture. Much of these have been minimized and we haven’t had any inappropriate chewing for some time. Tsunami is very friendly with people and happily greets all guests. He loves going on hikes and adventures with his foster family, while not extremely active, Tsunami would do best in a home that can keep him entertained and take him on fun adventures.
