Hello everyone, my name is now Shoji, and it means “soaring second son” in Japanese. I am a 4-year-old male Shiba Inu mix. I was in a PA shelter because my owner could no longer care for me. I was very scared in there, but the staff took extra time to help me settle in and I bonded to them. They sent DC SIR videos of me cuddling with my trusted people and getting along with a group of dogs. Thankfully, DC SIR found a foster for me quickly! I had a long drive from PA to Shiba HQ, and the volunteer could see how scared I was because I was shaking all over. Once I got to Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard on my own. I was too scared to come near the volunteers, but when they let other dogs out, I was so happy to see them. I even met a friendly Puppy who followed me around and tried to get me to play. The volunteers noticed I didn’t smell so good, and my fur was greasy, so I had to get into a bath pretty soon after I arrived. Once the volunteer picked me up, I just nuzzled up in her arms. I was scared of the shower, so I just laid down and let the volunteer wash off all the dirt and grime off of me. I was too nervous about taking boiled chicken! After my bath, I got to go out with the other resident dogs while I waited for my foster family to pick me up. I was much more calm and relaxed after my bath. I figured out the dog door and went in and out as I pleased. Finally, I found an open crate and took a nap. When my foster mom arrived, I came out to greet her but ran back into my crate after a quick hello. I was nervous about going on another drive, but I was told things would settle down after this drive. I got to my foster home, where I got to me my foster Shibling. We took our time integrating, and of course, I got along with everyone. Once inside, I found an open crate to curl up in and feel safe. DC SIR says I am a sweet and gentle boy and will need patience and confidence building before I start going on adventures. They think I will do best in a home with other friendly dogs. Tell DC SIR if you have a quiet home and think I will be a good fit for your family!
