Hello everyone, my name is now Shai, and it means “Shy” in Japanese. I am a 7-year old, cream female, Shiba Inu, who could no longer produce puppies in a puppy mill, so they released me to DC SIR. DC SIR doesn’t know how long I have lived in the mill and they think that maybe I once lived in a house because I am eager to go near people but won’t let anyone touch me. I’m a tiny compact Shiba. When DC SIR picked me up, my nails were painfully long, and I smelled terrible. They put me in a crate for a long four-hour drive to Shiba HQ. But I didn’t want to be in a crate and found a way to get my head through! The volunteers pulled over for a bit and put me in their lap. Most mill dogs would hate this but I settled down and curled up in my rescuer’s arms for the long drive. I even had my long nails trimmed while I relaxed. Once I got to Shiba HQ, my fosters let me out in a private yard to potty and explore. Soon I was able to go to the main yard and meet the other Shibas! I was so happy to see other happy dogs, and my tail went up, and I zoomed around the yard, enjoying my freedom. But that didn’t last long because my foster mom needed to bathe me. I just froze through my bath, but my foster mom tried to assure me as she washed away years of dirt. Once done, I got to run in the yard again and dry in the sun. I couldn’t stop galloping in the yard. I loved stretching my little legs! My first night, my foster parents put me in an xpen with a soft bed, water and toys. But I was able to open the pen and explore the house while they slept. I even figured out the doggie door and took myself potty. When I saw my foster mom was up and looking for me, I came into the house, and she made me yummy warm bone broth. She sat with me on my bed until I felt comfortable enough to fall asleep. I will need a lot of medical care, but DC SIR will make sure I am healthy for surgery first! You can donate to my care with DC SIR on PayPal using dcshibainurescue@gmail.com
