Hello everyone, my name is now Peony. I am the tiniest and youngest Shiba Inu rescued from the commercial mill release. My foster mom could see I was traumatized from my life in the mill. I was too scared to walk when I was finally set free. When my foster mom first picked me up for baths and put me inside, I would freeze. But the horrors of my life in the mill would flash, and I would roll and try to bite if anyone tried to pick me up. Even though I didn’t want to be picked up, I followed my foster mom everywhere she went. If she looked at me, I would walk away and pretend I wasn’t following her! I wanted to follow her so badly that I threw myself down the deck stairs before knowing how to walk down them and hurt my leg. My foster mom had to sit outside for a long time trying to build my trust before I would let her pick me up. Once I realized how gentle she was, she warned me by saying, “Up, up!” I began to calm down. I frantically paced indoors a lot. My foster mom started to carry me around while humming and playing soft music. Soon I would seek her out for pets and to be picked up! I feel safe now when she carries me. I didn’t eat for days. I was so scared. Soon I started eating after my foster mom would hold me. It took almost a week; now I can eat on my own. My foster mom taught me how to safely walk up and down the stairs so I could follow her around all the time! She did take me to the vet with DC SIR alum Katniss to get my leg checked because I was limping for so long. Of course, it was totally fine the day of the appointment. I got my full check-up since I was there. I have some impact damage on my teeth, probably from chewing on the cage I lived in, and I will need dental work to fix the damage. Other tests should come in next week! Follow my story to lear more!
