Meet Pansy! She is the first born of all the Flower Pups. Born Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 12:28 pm to Peony, also mother of Poppy, with a short contraction time. Pansy weighed just 5.7 ounces. Pansy was the tiniest of all the flower pups and remained the smallest. Unfortunately, Peony had post-partum issues and would not let the foster parents near her pups after their birth. Since Peony was cleaning them and feeding them, the fosters consulted a breeder and deemed things to be fine for a few days. However, several days after their birth, Peony stopped feeding the pups and became more reactive towards anyone walking into the room. When the fosters noticed she had tangled Pansy into a blanket and was jumping on her while lunging at the fosters, they had to move fast to remove her. Pansy was quickly removed from the wrapped bedding, given mouth to mouth, and put into an oxygen chamber. Luckily, she quickly improved and received multiple times a day of oxygen therapy and photobiomodulation. We delayed her Early Neurological Stimulation because of her early trauma. She has been a ‘shaky’ puppy since we pulled her from Peony.
Pansy has trouble getting off her back (although this appears more trauma-related than physical) and has a constant mild shake. She doesn’t seem to have good bite inhibition and licks/kisses bite unintentionally hard. She had one mild seizure but quickly recovered with oxygen therapy. Pansy, otherwise, eats, plays, and is potty trained like all the other pups. She cannot push through the dog door but (most of the time) will let her foster mom know when she needs to go out and has not had any accidents. She does have to go potty a bit more frequently in the night, and her foster mom regularly got up every few hours when she would cry to potty to ensure she didn’t soil herself. She does get tumbled by other dogs running into her, and she will squeal and ask to be picked up but generally plays well and loves to explore the outdoors!
We are still working to pay off multiple medical bills from earlier intakes while caring for so many new dogs. Please consider donating to help us pay off bills and ensure Pansy can get the qualified care to ensure her health. We are confident that she can live a normal and healthy life!
We are currently not accepting applications on Pansy until we have better understanding of any long-term medical considerations.
