Hello everyone, my name is Minou, and I am a young female Shiba Inu who was on the run as a stray in PA for over a month! I was finally caught and taken to a shelter where they held me while they looked for my owners. No one came forward, and the shelter was overwhelmed so I waited in a foster home until DC SIR volunteer could drive out to get me. The shelter was kind enough to have their volunteer drive an hour, and I drove the last 2 hours with a DC SIR volunteer and sat well in the car but threw up right before I got to Shiba HQ. My foster mom said it was okay, that she gets car sick too! I got to explore the yard by myself and soon met all the resident dogs. I got along with everyone just great! I also met the resident cat with no issue. I adjusted very quickly to my foster home and slept in an xpen the first night. I haven’t had any issues and potty outside but I don’t know how to use the dog door yet. The shelter volunteer told DC SIR I chewed on furniture when I was bored, so my foster mom ensures I have plenty of chew toys and enrichment games, although there are so many dogs to play with at Shiba HQ! I am a bit nervous around people, and it took a couple days for me to come up to my foster family, but they give me yummy boiled chicken, and I just love them for that! I was on the run for so long that I am used to running from people, but they are being patient and let me come to them on my own terms. The shelter thinks I am about a year old, but DC SIR thinks I am about 8 months old. I still need to be spayed. I did test positive for Lyme disease on my 4Dx, but I am being treated for this now. I love my raw food, and DC SIR will work on getting me to trust people while they wait for my next vet visit. I just need my 2-week medical updates and behavior assessment, and I’ll be ready for my furever home!
