Hello everyone, my name is now Luna, and it means ‘moon’ and is often used in Japanese anime. I am a 5-year-old female Shiba Inu. I was taken to a Tennessee shelter after my owner died. I lived with 3 other dogs, and two of them were quickly adopted. My housemate, Yuriko, also a Shiba Inu, was left at the shelter with me. Luckily for us, very kind volunteers at the shelter took us into their homes to wait for a home-based rescue to take us in. I went to one foster home with other dogs and cats, and Yuri went to another multi-dog house. Lucky for us, DC SIR immediately agreed to take us into their rescue and ensured all our medical was done before we headed up to the DC area. My foster mom in TN took me on all kinds of adventures with her dogs while I stayed with them. You may wonder why Yuri and I didn’t stay together, but the truth is we are not bonded and tend to do better with other dogs! Let me tell you a bit about myself. I am shy and reserved, but once I trust you, I will nuzzle up for pets and roll over for belly rubs. In foster, I lived in a multi-pet home that included all different breeds of dogs & multiple cats. I did great with everyone! I did great on hikes, and I could hike for hours without getting too tired. I love being in nature and exploring. So much that I got tree sap all over my face and legs! When my foster mom in TN was ready to drive us to DC SIR, I did great in the car for the long drive. Once Yuri and I got to Shiba HQ we got to explore the yard on our own. Soon we met all the other Shibas there, & I liked being around other dogs. The DC SIR volunteer could see I was more confident when other dogs were nearby. I then had a long shower to remove the sap from my fur. I had to soak in some olive oil but after some time all the sap came off! I also had all 10 of my nails trimmed. I was just perfect during my grooming! I enjoyed taking boiled chicken, & dehydrated farm treats too. Soon my foster family picked me up and took me to my new foster home, where I will live with 3 other Shibas until I am adopted. I love being around other dogs! Do you think I could be a good fit for your home?
