Krystal is tiny female Shiba Inu at just 12 lbs! She came to us from a PA shelter after her owner died. The shelter previously guessed her age at 15 yrs old. But soon after arriving at Shiba HQ we knew that was wrong! She has seen two vets, and both put her age closer to 10 years old. Krystal is very agile and had a lot of energy. She can quickly go up and down stairs and even jump on/off the couch. Krystal needed a lot of work done when she came to us. She already had full dental, bloodwork, and spay. She already had full dental, bloodwork, and spay. However, there were notes in her shelter paper that she was throwing up her food in the shelter. We also have issues with regurgitation after eating when she came to us. It is managed with small meals and digestive enzymes, but we thought we should have it checked out today anyway. We tested Krystal for megaesophagus, which included a thoracic radiograph (X-Ray) made after a barium (a gastrointestinal contrast material) swallow. Krystal is cleared of megaesophagus, but this should be a consideration in feeding small meals for the adopters.

Krystal loves to run in the yard and often naps in the sun or under a tree. Krystal can hear and see but maybe startled if you come up behind her without letting her know with a wave of your hand. Once she sees you, Krystal will gladly trot by your side through the yard or house. Krystal will need to go to a home that will allow her to cuddle with her human on the couch. She loves to cuddle with her people. Krystal also loves head massages and may pester you with light pawing until you give her the attention she wants.

Krystal has been given free roam of the house with multiple dogs. She gets along with all the dogs, but she doesn’t enjoy being knocked down and trampled over by younger rambunctious puppies! Krystal sleeps on the couch or in a dog bed at night, and sometimes we find her cuddle up next to her BFF, Buddy. Krystal has ignored the resident cat. Krystal has not had any accidents in the home and easily uses the doggie door in her foster home. Krystal has a little stiffness in her back left leg, but that doesn’t slow her down one bit! We think Krystal would do well in an apartment or a house with a low to moderate level of activity. She loves to walk on a leash and will often stop to smell the flowers and probably pee! She also rides well in the car with a seatbelt attachment or resting her head on someone’s lap. Krystal loves tiny plush toys and squeaky toys. She still has such a playful side to her. At times, she collects them in her dog bed or the corner of the couch.

Thank you to everyone for your support and donations, and thank you again to the incredible staff who looked after her and worked with us to get her into our care!
