Hello everyone, my new name is now Kichi and it means “fortunate” in Japanese. I am a 2-year-old, small, female Shiba Inu. You won’t think my life was so fortunate when you hear my story, but DC SIR promises that things are about to change. You see, I was brought as a small puppy into a home that thought I was just the cutest thing. But soon my family didn’t have time for me and I spent the next 2 years locked in a cage in the basement. I had very little contact with the outside world. I have never walked on a leash and I don’t have any of the basic manners dogs my age have. DC SIR says I am very much like a puppy mill dog, scared of the unknown world around me. Luckily for me, a family member saw my plight and offered to buy me. Once in her care, I was given to a friend but they soon realized that had so many issues and would need professional help. Because I was in a home with cats that I chased, my rescuers put me in a kennel and contacted DC SIR to help me. DC SIR waited for a dog assessment since they have a very long wait list for homes with no dogs. The kennel was able to send a very short video of me with another leashed dog and DC SIR thought it was good enough to get me into a home before the holidays. I cried while in the crate during transport. Once I arrived at Shiba HQ, my foster mom carried my crate to the yard to be released. I was so interested in the new smells. I met some neutral dogs first and snapped at the ones that lingered too long in my face. After a couple hours, I met every dog at Shiba HQ and began taking treats from my foster mom. Soon it was lunchtime and I ate a bowl of raw food. I even took treats with the group of Shibas and didn’t snap at anyone. So far I won’t let anyone pick me up and I will snap at them if they try to! My foster mom knows how to work with fearful dogs and DC SIR will update you on my progress. They say I’m super smart! I will need to be spayed, vetted, and behaviorally assessed before I am available for adoption!
