Hello everyone, my name is Ginta and it means “seasoned man” in Japanese. I am a small 9-year-old cream Shiba Inu and I’ve been in a PA shelter for the past month. I was nervous in the shelter but it was safer than where I used to live. You see, animal control took me from a crack house. I was living there with other dogs, but I wasn’t in great shape. I just got neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations and I am negative for heartworm. The shelter noticed how scared I was there, so they contacted DC SIR. After scheduling all my medical, a volunteer from the shelter and from DC SIR met up to transport me to Shiba HQ. The DC SIR volunteer had boiled chicken for me so I popped my head out from hiding to take treats.

Once I got to Shiba HQ I got to explore the yard on my own. My tail was down and I nervously searched for an escape. I could see other dogs watching me from a window and that was comforting. I got to meet the neutral dog, Katniss, first. She was really nice and that calmed me down. Soon after, I met all the other dogs and I did great with everyone. The DC SIR volunteer noticed I smelled horrible and my fur was greasy, so I went in for a shower before I could wander inside. I was a bit nervous in the shower but I didn’t make a peep or protest. I have some fur missing from my legs and rear but DC SIR thinks I just need good nutrition. The volunteer had to wash my fur a few times to get out the smell and grease. Oh boy did I feel good after that! My tail was up and I did the zoomies. After getting clean I got to explore inside Shiba HQ. I kept trying to find a small place to curl up and hide. I liked hiding under the couch. When I was in the crack house it was a good thing if I could find a safe place to hide. I did follow the other dogs outside again to dry up and my tail was up a lot more. I could tell I was safe here. I even started chasing the bugs that kept bugging me! I’m still a bit nervous indoors will hide under the couch, but DC SIR thinks I will thrive when people know how to care for me.
