Hi, my name is Miki. All I have ever known is a terrifying place called a puppy mill. I have given birth to numerous puppies. Maybe you have seen them? They are the cute Shiba Inu puppies you see at pet stores. Maybe you met one of my puppies who were purchased online? I hope they never end up in the horrible place I have lived the 5 years of my life. Somehow, my life did not end in death at the mill like thousands of others who have died from cold, thirst, hunger, injuries or murder. I found my way on a transport to Safe Harbor Animal Rescue who watched over me & 7 other rescues until DCSIR could come to take us. I was scared again when I was put into a van with DCSIR but after I stopped by the main DCSIR home and my foster family came to pick me up, I thought my life may change.I was scared to leave my mill sisters but when I got to my foster home I met another Shiba Inu and he was a puppy mill survivor too! He’s lived happily with his family for years. So I stick by him and he shows me that all humans are not evil. He also shows me where to sleep, how to climb stairs and play outside. I’m not as scared as some of my dear friends from the Missouri 8 but I still need a patient and loving home.So much has happened since I have left the puppy mill. My teeth have been cleaned, I’ve had my vaccinations and I even sat real still and was such a good girl when I got injected with my microchip. I didn’t flinch at that huge needle. The vet thinks that’s because I’ve been so used to constant pain that I can just block it out. I am spayed so I will never be bred for profit again. Maybe now someone can look at me like they looked at my puppies and maybe even love ME? Please share my story and help me find my forever home! Please email adoption@dcsir.org and tell them you’d like to adopt Miki!
